Beauty School: NYFW Fall '13
Runway hair and makeup looks by Aveda and Estee Lauder

Did you manage to get your hands on the addictively-vibrant Prabal Gurung for Target collection this past weekend? If not, you're not alone. Once the Floral Crush shorts we were coveting sold out in half an hour, we admit, we were in a dark, dark place.
That's how we found ourselves once again drooling over the gorgeous and financially unattainable ensembles at New York Fashion Week. In the middle of the night. Trust us, it wasn't pretty.
Good thing we can afford to clean up our act. Below, Aveda and Estée Lauder break down designer looks created especially for the runway. We can't think of a better-looking consolation prize.
Christian Siriano Fall '13
"This collection is inspired by the golden age of Russian Opera and Saint Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatre. From the front, the look has a lovely roundness. The braids at the back evoke refinement and glamour, reminiscent of a Russian girl dressed for an evening at the opera." -- Antoinette Beenders for Aveda
Prep hair with Pure Abundance Style Prep to give hair some texture and grit. Blowdry hair straight.
Create a clean center part using a tail comb. Make an inverted fishtail braid on each side of the head, beginning at the crown and working toward the back of the ear. Secure the end of each braid with an elastic band.
Tame flyaways with Air Control Hair Spray. Add fullness by gently massaging braids.
Fold the braids over one another across the back of the head, just above the nape, in a crisscross fashion. Tuck ends under and secure with bobby pins. Finish with a misting of Air Control Hair Spray.
Derek Lam Fall '13
"The beauty look Derek Lam and I created for the Fall 2013 show is a sophisticated, minimal urban hippie - playing off of Derek's inspirational mood board and the textures and colors of the fabrics in his collection." -- Tom Pecheux for Estée Lauder
"The skin is very fresh and iridescent, a satin-matte texture."
Try: Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator and Double Wear Light Stay-in-Place Makeup.
"I placed a highlight of metallic shimmer in the center of the eyelid to make it appear very flat, like a two-dimensional painting on a canvas." Try: Pure Color Stay-on Shadow Paint in Cosmic* and Pure Color Gelée Powder EyeShadow in Cyber Silver.*
"The saturated stain on the lips is very strong and intense - a mix of brown, maroon and burgundy." Try: Pure Color Vivid Shine Lipstick in Copper Flash* and Pure Color Gloss in Brazen Berry,* pressed gently with fingertips.
*Actual products used: Pure Color Instant Intense EyeShadow Trio in Smoked Chrome, Steel Lilacs and Sterling Plums, Pure Color Vivid Shine Lipstick in Burnished Bronze and Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer in Electric Wine, available August 2013.
