Nominations Now Open for the aio Media Hawai‘i Lodging and Tourism Awards
The second annual awards will recognize outstanding achievements of tourism operators across the state.
A record 9.3 million people visited Hawai‘i last year, according to the Dept. of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. The islands’ scenery and history are always a draw. But it is the personal touches of the more than 121,000 local men and women who work in resorts, transportation and tourism destinations that make visitors’ time in Hawai‘i special.
The aio Media Hawai‘i Lodging and Tourism Awards was created for them. Nominations are now open for the second annual HLTA, which recognizes those in the hospitality business who go above and beyond not only to keep Hawai‘i a premier global destination, but to demonstrate the aloha spirit to visitors and residents every day. Nominations will be taken for individuals and businesses in 18 awards in six overall categories: accommodations, food and beverage, events, activities, agritourism and leadership in the industry.
“While the HLTA traditionally honors the top hospitality employees each year, the aio Media Awards confer well-deserved recognition on those leaders in the industry who also make invaluable contributions to our success,” said Mufi Hannemann, president and CEO of the HLTA. “These awards reward excellence, and you can never accord enough recognition for the best among us.”

Founded in 1947, HLTA is the largest nonprofit trade association of lodging properties, management firms, owners and related businesses. In addition to hotels, resorts, transportation companies and tourism attractions, its nearly 700 local, national and international members include retailers, product suppliers, service providers, restaurants, media and more. HLTA also hosts the Charity Walk, the state’s largest single-day fundraiser. This year, the 40th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk raised more than $2.6 million statewide.
