Drink Local Guide: Where to Get Locally Crafted Beer, Wine and Spirits in Hawai‘i

It’s not just a craft-beer boom anymore: Hawai‘i produces our own wine, vodka, gin, mead and more right here in the Islands. Find out who’s behind it and where to get it.

Drink Local Guide

From left, a variation on a Vesper, made with Fid Street Gin, Hawaiian Shochu, Lillet Blanc and orange bitters, available at Pint + Jigger; Kyle Reutner’s Kō Hana rum drink with mint: Livin' Easy, available at Piggy Smalls; Alicia Yamachika’s whiskey cocktail at Azure; MauiWine sparkling rosé; Mākaha’s Mission by Max Kamm at P+J, made with Fid Street Gin, Mākaha mango, Big Island honey, mint and MA‘O lime; Beer Lab HI’s The Truth; on tap at P+J, the Talventi, with rye whiskey, Campari, Kona Red Cold Brew Coffee and house vanilla cream; and Drogon Punch (Game of Thrones tribute), a dragon fruit punch with Pau Maui Vodka, dragon fruit and local hibiscus simple syrup, Frankie’s Meyer lemon juice,  homemade grenadine and Peychaud’s bitters.

First, farm-fresh food took center plate. Now, drinks—home-brewed, concocted and coaxed from the farm, beehive, vineyard or field—crisscross our Island state. Craft beers include spices and fruits, a Maui winery creates increasingly complex wines, rum is distilled from native cane to glass bottles before our eyes. Cheers to drinking local!
