Forty pieces of art, 30 artists, 18 museums. The exhibit 30 Americans has been traveling across the country for the last nine years. This month, it stops in Hawai‘i at the Honolulu Museum of Art. Along with sculptures, collages, paintings and photographs by significant African American artists examining race and identity—including Hank Willis Thomas’ commentary on athletes as a commodity in “Basketball and Chain”—the exhibition includes workshops and portraiture opportunities with local artists. Register now to sit for a free portrait, reverse decoupage or just walk through the introspective gallery of external appearances and add your own selfie to the show. —RD

Feb. 22–June 21. Honolulu Museum of Art, 900 S. Beretania St., honolulumuseum.org, @honolulumuseum

THEATER & ARTS

Carol Burnett

March 6 and 7 | 7:30 p.m.

Spend a night at the Blaisdell with television, stage and sketch comedy legend Carol Burnett. A recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2013, Kennedy Center Honors in 2003, and numerous Golden Globes, Emmys and even a Grammy throughout her five-decades-long career, Burnett will undoubtedly offer a hilarious interactive evening with the audience. If you go, ask her about the ending of Hawai‘i Five-0—she did play Alex O’Loughlin’s TV Aunt Deb.

Editor’s Note: Mariah Carey has postponed her concert in Hawai‘i to later this year. Sad, yes, but she’s promising a “All I Want for Christmas Is You and Hits” show, which seems perfect for the Christmas queen.

CONCERT

Mariah Carey

The legend. The powerhouse. The obsession. Doesn’t ring a bell? You may know Mariah from the 2001 film Glitter, 2017’s memorable live New Year’s Eve performance (followed by a fun string of tweets) or a few feuds here and there with the likes of Madonna, J.-“I don’t know her”-Lo and Nicki Minaj. No but seriously, we can bet that the queen of Christmas ballads will give us one heck of a musical performance. But that’s it: just the one. Additional shows will not be added—she’s on a tight schedule and will not bend to your will. Why you so obsessed with her?
