Koko Crater Botanical Garden

Koko Crater Botanical Garden

Tucked away in the Koko Crater basin on O‘ahu’s east side, Koko Crater Botanical Garden’s striking xeriscape served as the perfect backdrop for the season’s floral and desert-inspired fashions. Visitors can explore 60 acres of exotic tropic and sub-tropic flora via a 2-mile loop trail that winds through the 200-acre crater. The garden has several rare and endangered plants native to Hawai‘i, the Americas, Madagascar and Africa. Art director Louis Scheer captured some of our favorites—gigantic blue flame cacti, octopus agave, rotund gold barrel cacti and bougainvillea in pink and purple hues in landscapes and macro shots that transformed petals and prickly stems into abstract compositions.

7491 Kokonani St., honolulu.gov, open daily, admission is free.
