Taste single-origin chocolates with cacao from Indonesia, Vietnam, Venezuela, Waiahole and Kona this Friday at Madre Chocolate's Friday pau hana at its Kailua shop. Madre Chocolate will also have samples of current experiments with fruits like jaboticaba and calamansi. Feel free to BYOB and anything else you want to dip into chocolate (significant others excepted).

Cow in the city! Naked Cow Dairy tasting room pops up at 687 Auahi, debuting new cheeses such as Naked Farmer: a simple fresh slicing cheese; Big Cream Little Rind: a French-style bloomy rind spreading cheese; Red White & Bleu: Buttermilk Blue Cheese rubbed with Alae Salt; and more, as well as Pickles the Cow, a real, live dairy cow.

Alan Wong's next Farmer Series Dinner on March 14 features Maui Cattle Company beef. Alex Franco, managing director of Kaupo Ranch, one of the ranches in the Maui Cattle Co co-op, will be there to talk story. The dinner starts off with pork adobo empanadas; a bite of unagi, kalua pig and foie gras; entrees include a tasting of Maui Cattle Co beef; dessert is a lilikoi creameux with strawberry guava, foamed granite and candied ginger meringue.

Proceeds from this evening will benefit AINA in Schools and the Hawaii FoodBank as part of the Taste of the Nation national campaign to end childhood hunger in America by 2015.
