Just opened: new locations of Honolulu Burger Co., Nobu, Monkeypod Kitchen and Doraku
The end of 2012 brought a flurry of new restaurants, like last-minute charitable donations at the end of the year. Most, though, are new locations of old favorites. Expect a closer look at some of these new spots in upcoming weeks.
Monkeypod Kitchen, Peter Merriman's first Oahu restaurant, officially opens February 1. We're looking forward to the 36 beers on tap (which include local breweries Maui Brewing Co. and Aloha Beer) served extra cold (29 degrees) through the "Blizzard" system. Sure, beer snobs will tell you too-cold beer dulls aromas, but we're suckers for a cold, cold pint.

Two burger joints are now duking it out in Kahala for the title of burger king: Honolulu Burger Co. just opened a second location in the former Antonio's New York Pizzeria space, not far from The Counter.

Mimasuya is the latest to try out the restaurant space in Uraku Tower, which previously held Donato Loperfido and Philippe Padovani's three restaurant iterations—Elua, Sapori and Padovani Grill (just Padovani on this one), all within the past three years. The new restaurant is Italian food by way of Kyoto.

Doraku Sushi opens a new location in Kakaako, bringing its modern Japanese plates and sushi rolls to the neighborhood, as well as happy hour (4 to 7 p.m.) and late night happy hour (10 p.m. til close).

If you're planning a Neighbor-Island retreat anytime soon, Nobu Lanai is now open at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay. It seems Nobu restaurants follow wherever Larry Ellison buys property—Nobu Malibu recently moved to a new Ellison development in Southern California.
