What’s Closed or Canceled in Honolulu Due to Hurricanes Julio and Iselle

City suspends bus services and organizers cancel events as Hurricanes Iselle and Julio approach the Islands. Here’s a list of all the cancelations and closures in Honolulu.

Expect canceled events and suspension of city and state services on Aug. 8 with the effects of Hurricane Iselle and Julio expected to reach Honolulu Thursday evening on Aug. 7 and last through the weekend.

Potential heavy rains, high winds and flash flooding are already putting a damper on a few events planned for this weekend. We’re keeping a running list of the cancelations and postponements:

City and State Services

  • TheBus and Handi-Van service resumed service 3 p.m. Aug. 8. Visit TheBus website for details. 

  • City parks and camp sites will be closed.

  • Trash collection will be suspended.

  • The Battleship Missouri Memorial will be closed Friday, Aug. 8.

  • State offices in Maui County (Maui, Lanai and Molokai) and Big Island will be closed noon Thursday, Aug. 7 through Friday, Aug. 8.

  • Early voting ends at 1 p.m. Aug 7 on the Big Island. Early voting on all other Islands, including Oahu, will end at 4 p.m. Aug. 7. Primary Day voting is still scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9.

  • Hawaii State Capitol and legislative offices will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. Normal office hours are expected to resume Monday, Aug. 11. 

  • All Hawaii public libraries and support offices, including all Big Island and Maui County public libraries, will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. For libraries with Saturday and Sunday hours, reopening will evaluated based on weather conditions.   • Iolani Palace will be closed Aug. 8-10. The palace will reopen 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11.

 

Schools 

  • University of Hawaii campuses on Maui and the Big Island will be closed Thursday, Aug. 7 and Friday, Aug. 8.

  • Public schools in Maui County (Maui, Lanai and Molokai) and the Big Island will be closed Thursday, Aug. 7.

  • All public schools statewide, including charter schools, will be closed Friday, Aug. 8.

  • All Hawaii Pacific University campuses will be closed Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9. 

  • Heald College will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. 

  • All OIA high school football games have been canceled on Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9, except for Kamehameha-Maui vs. Iolani at Aloha Stadium on Saturday night.

 

Banks and Businesses

  • All Central Pacific Bank branches on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Big Island will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. Operating hours for Saturday, Aug. 9 will be evaluated. All ATMs will still be available for customers, unless the power goes out. Call 808-544-0500 or toll free at 1-800-342-8422 for details. 

  • All American Savings Bank offices will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. 

  • All eight First Hawaiian Bank branches in Maui County will be closed 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7. Visit FHB’s website for updates.

  • Sea Life Park will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. 

  • Waikiki Aquarium will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. 

  • Wet ‘N’ Wild Hawaii will be closed Friday, Aug. 8.

  • Polynesian Cultural Center will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. 

 

Malls/Centers

  • Ala Moana Center, Ala Moana Building and Ala Moana Pacific Center will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. Ala Moana Center is scheduled to reopen 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. Visit the website for details. 

  • Ward Village will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. Ward Village will reopen on Saturday, Aug. 9

  • Kahala Mall will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. The mall will resume normal business hours on Saturday, Aug. 9.

  • Pearl Ridge will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. 

  • Waikele Premium Outlets will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. The center will  resume normal business hours on Saturday, Aug. 9.

 

Community Events

  • Real Beer Festival originally scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9 has been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 16.

  • Baker Faire: A Pop-up Bakeshop has been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 16.

  • Yay! Keiki Day, originally scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9 has been postponed. The event has been rescheduled for Aug. 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

  • The Building Industry Association Remodeling’s Remodel It Right, Remodel It Green Expo has be postponed. The event has been rescheduled for Friday, Sept. 5 through Sunday, Sept. 7.

  • Ballet Hawaii’s Peter Pan has been canceled Friday, Aug. 8. The event is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9 and Sunday, Aug. 10. Ticket holders for Friday night’s performance will be accomodated with seats to Saturday night’s event. Call 808-521-8600 for details. 

  • The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) scheduled for Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9 have been canceled. Two performances on Aug. 17 and 21 have been added. Call 808-447-3926 to reschedule your reservations.

  • Honolulu Museum of Art, including all of its programs and tours, will be suspended starting 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7. The museum will be closed Friday, Aug. 8. Aotearoa New Zealand Film Festival screenings have been rescheduled: White Lies at 1 p.m., Aug. 18; Mt Zion at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 18; and Wairora Shorts at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 25. 

  • The Jose Dynamite & Friends Comedy Show at OToole’s will be canceled Friday, Aug. 8. 

  • Mililani Town Center has rescheduled its “Back to School” bash to Aug. 23.

  • Oahu Heart Walk has been rescheduled to Saturday, Sept. 6.
