Family Fishing

Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden offers catch-and-release fishing every weekend morning for free. Get there early, as a limited number of bamboo poles are available between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. To prepare your family for the day, pack food and drinking water, bread for fish bait, barbless hooks, insect repellant, sun protection and shoes comfortable enough for a 20-minute hike to the pond.

ʻOhana Coloring Project

If your children like to color the walls and floors at home, this activity is for them. The UNIQLO store at Ala Moana Center invites families this Saturday to put finishing touches to “All in the ‘Ohana,” a black-and-white mural depicting the colorful and diverse people of Honolulu. The mural is on the exterior wall of the UNIQLO store and is the creation of local artist Jasper Wong, founder of Pow!Wow! Hawai’i. Bring your kids—and their aunties, uncles, and grandparents to the store—grab a stash of provided crayons and markers, and start coloring!
