Living History Day at the Battleship Missouri Memorial
Celebrate a double anniversary for the world’s last battleship by spending a day on the Mighty Mo. Living History Day will commemorate the Battleship Missouri’s 75th birthday—it was first launched in 1944—as well as its 20th anniversary as a monument at Pearl Harbor. Admission will be free on Saturday for all kama‘āina and military. In addition, kids and parents can take a tour of the ship, watch historical reenactments and join in keiki activities. Remember, park at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center and catch the free shuttle.

Keiki from the east side of O’ahu will showcase their talents this Friday at the Hawaiʻi Kai Towne Center. The performers—from Ka Hale o Kāhala Hula School and Hawaiʻi Kai Dance Academy—will take to the marina stage at 5 and 6:30 p.m., respectively. There will be a couple of booths and family-friendly activities, including spin-the-wheel games for prizes. If you miss this monthly event, the next “96825 LIVE” will be on Saturday, Feb. 16, featuring lion dancers and martial artists.

The Big Home Building & Remodeling Show

Makana Kids Chinese New Year
West side of Oʻahu will begin celebrating Chinese New Year with family-friendly activities at Ka Makana Aliʻi. Arrive at center court at noon for storytelling and a Chinese lion pole jumping demonstration. Then from 1 to 2 p.m., feed money to dancing lions as they visit stores at the mall. Ina Chang, a master of Chinese calligraphy and local mom, will be on-site from 1 to 4 p.m. to personalize scrolls.

Pig the Pug and Puzzles
On Saturday morning, Barnes & Noble bookstore will introduce keiki to a new book, Pig the Pug, about a selfish dog who refuses to share toys with his poor friend Trevor. Will he learn to share? After the book reading, coupons will be handed out to participants for $4 off grilled cheese sandwiches and drinks at the bookstore café. Stick around until 2 p.m., when the bookstore celebrates National Puzzle Month with a puzzle party for all ages. Challenge yourself to crosswords, word searches, a puzzle tournament, jigsaws and activities from Curious Jane magazine.
