You’ll Want to Plan Ahead to Avoid This Weekend’s Road Closures Across O‘ahu

Or maybe just stay home, since traffic may be bad Oct. 6–8.

Drivers, start your engines. We know traffic is a hassle on O‘ahu and unexpected road closures are everyone’s worst nightmare. So, we’ve put together a list of this weekend’s lane closures, courtesy of the state Department of Transportation and the city, to keep your traffic dread to a minimum.

 

We’ve even got a warning for the Big Island!

 

Note: Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

 

O‘ahu Lane Closures

H-1 Freeway

Ewa

On Saturday, Oct. 7, the eastbound right lane near the Kapolei/Ewa Off-Ramp (Exit 3) will be closed from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. for maintenance work.

 

Honolulu

Two right lanes will be closed in the eastbound direction for guardrail improvements between the Houghtailing Street Underpass and the A‘ala Street Overpass from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. beginning Sunday, Oct. 8, to Friday, Oct. 13.

 

Honolulu

From Friday, Oct. 6, to Friday, Oct. 13, the shoulders at the eastbound Vineyard Boulevard Off-Ramp (exit 20B), Liliha Street Overpass, and A‘ala Street Overpass will be closed for guardrail and shoulder improvements.

 

Kapolei

There will be a roving closure in both directions on the H-1 between the Kunia Interchange and Kalaeloa Boulevard Overpass from 4 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7.

 

Kapolei

Westbound lane closure near Campbell Industrial Park/Barber’s Point Harbor Off-Ramp (Exit 1A) 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Sunday, Oct. 8, through Friday, Oct. 13.

 

Pearl City

There will be a westbound lane closure for maintenance work on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. between the Kaonohi Street Overpass and the Ka‘ahumanu Street Overpass.

 

Pearl Harbor

Eastbound, at the Radford Drive Overpass, a lane maybe closed for lighting replacements from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, through Thursday, Oct. 12.

 

Waipahu

There will be a lane closure in the eastbound direction by the Kunia Interchange for guardrail work, Sunday, Oct. 8, to Friday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

 

H-201 Moanalua Freeway

Halawa

On Sunday, Oct. 8, to Friday, Oct. 13, there will be a lane closure between the Kaneohe Off-Ramp (Exit 1D) and the Aiea Heights Drive Overpass in the westbound direction from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for guardrail replacements.

 

Halawa

Eastbound between Kahuapa‘ani Street Overpass and Ala Kapuna Street Overpass will have lane closures for striping work on Sunday, Oct. 8, through Friday, Oct. 13, from 9 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.

 

Farrington Highway

Nanakuli

Up to two lanes between Haleakala Avenue and Nanakuli Avenue will be closed in both directions on Sunday, Oct. 8, through Friday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. for utility installations.

 

Waianae

There will be an eastbound lane closure near Kahe Point from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8, to Friday, Oct. 13, for guardrail work.

 

 

Kamehameha Highway

Kalihi

Lanes may be close in both directions between Middle Street and Pu‘uhale Road on Oct. 7, 9 and 13 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the rail project.

 

Mililani

Closure of Kamehameha Highway between Ka Uka Boulevard and Lanikuhana Avenue will be continuous from 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, to 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, for bridge deck work.

Motorists may take the H-2 Freeway as an alternative.

 

Pearl Harbor

Traffic will be contraflowed for lane closures on Oct. 7, 9, and 13 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. between Arizona Street and Radford Drive in both directions.

 

Pearl Harbor

Lanes may be closed in both directions between Kohomua Street and Center Drive on Oct. 7, 9, and 13 for the rail project.

Up to two lanes maybe closed eastbound from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

One lane may be closed westbound from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

 

Nimitz Highway

Pearl Harbor

Westbound lane may be closed between Omalley Boulevard and the H-1 Freeway from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. beginning Sunday, Oct. 8, through Thursday, Oct. 12, for lighting replacements.

 

Pali Highway

Nu‘uanu

Right lane in both directions near Waokanaka Street will be closed on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. for maintenance.

 

Ala Moana Boulevard

Honolulu

Eastbound closure between Queen Street and Pi‘ikoi Street will be continuous from 5 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, through 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9 for drainage repairs. Traffic will be contraflowed in the westbound lanes.

 

Keahumoa Parkway

Kapolei

Right lane near Kualakai Parkway will be closed in both directions from Friday, Oct. 6, through Friday, Oct. 13, for the rail project.

 

Kunia Road

Waipahu

Southbound land closure between Hawai‘i Country Club and the H-1 will be in both directions on Sunday, Oct. 8, through Friday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for guardrail work.

 

Ala Napunani Street

Moanalua

The right lane will be closed in both directions between Moanalua Road and Ala Aolani Street from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, through Thursday, Oct 12, for lighting replacements.

 

Ala Onaona Street

Honolulu

Eastbound lanes may be closed on Saturday, Oct. 7, and Monday, Oct. 9, through Friday, Oct. 13, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. for the rail project.

 

Aolele Street

Honolulu

On Saturday, Oct. 7, and Monday, Oct. 9, through Friday, Oct. 13, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., the following areas may be closed:

  • Between Paiea Street and Aolewa Place

  • Both directions at the Aolele Street and Paiea Street intersection

  • Westbound lane between Lagoon Drive and Paiea Street

 

Valkenburgh Street

Honolulu

There will be lane closures between the H-1 and Nimitz Highway on Sunday, Oct. 8, through Thursday, Oct. 12, from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for lighting replacements. Traffic will be contraflowed.

 

Big Island Lane Closures

Mamalahoa (Highway 190)

Pu‘uanahulu

Both directions will have alternating lane closures between Mile Marker 20 and Mile Marker 22 24-hours, seven days a week for drainage improvements.

 

Trucks and trailers that exceed statutory size-weight limits will be reviewed upon application of their respective oversize-overweight vehicle permits. Maximum width to pass through the project area for all vehicles with permit is 10-feet.
