You Can Still Get Fit in 2017 With These Upcoming Races in Honolulu

There are still plenty of opportunities to set a goal, train and test your physical fitness in 2017. Here’s an overview of what’s coming up.

SEPTEMBER

Old Pali Road Run

Sept. 10

This race has a small, community vibe, taking you over 4.4 hilly and scenic miles on the windward side of Old Pali Road.

MCBH Sunset Flight Line 5K

Sept. 15

An evening 5-kilometer run (3.1 miles) on a closed course at Marine Core Base Hawai‘i.

Honolulu Century Ride

Sept. 24

Honolulu’s largest century ride, this bike ride comes with HPD support and aid stations along the way. You can choose to do 25, 50, 75 or 100 miles on your bike.

OCTOBER

Tantalus 10 Miler

Oct. 8

It’s 10 hilly miles up and around Tantalus, clockwise this year.

XTERRA Gunstock 5K and Half Marathon

Oct. 21

These 13.1 miles of trails at Gunstock Ranch are normally inaccessible, up high above Mālaekahana.

HMSA 30K

Oct. 22

Part of the tried-and-true Marathon Readiness Series, this run follows the Honolulu Marathon course from Kapi‘olani Park to Hawai‘i Kai and back.

NOVEMBER

Kailua Surfriders 5K, 10K and 1-miler

Nov. 5

A mostly flat, fun 5K for the whole family that raises funds for Kailua High School.

Val Nolasco Half Marathon

Nov. 12

Your last road half-marathon chance of the year, and part of the Marathon Readiness Series.

Ka Iwi Coast Run

Nov. 19

A fundraiser for the Hui Nalu canoe club, this is a beautiful, family-friendly event that allows you to run or walk the full width of the road from Sandy’s to Maunalua Bay at sunrise.

Turkey Trot

Nov. 23

This is the event’s 42nd year, where you guess your time, no watches allowed. Winner is the runner closest to his or her predicted time.

DECEMBER

XTERRA Trail World Championships

Dec. 3

The 5K, 10K and half-marathon options make this annual Kualoa Ranch event a good fit for everyone.

Honolulu Marathon

Dec. 10

Honolulu’s biggest race, with 25,000-plus runners coming from all over the world to take on 26.2 miles.

Makahiki Challenge

Dec. 16

A 5K mud and obstacle race at Kualoa Ranch that is both grueling and fun.
