Your squad never looked so good.

Our squad style goals are looking pretty different these days. Now that our ride-or-dies have families of their own with tots in tow, wardrobe decisions have become less “on Wednesdays we wear pink” and more “on Wednesdays we wear Dora the Explorer.”

Which is why we were thrilled to come across Maui-based brand Kūlua. Designer Anna Kahalekulu specializes in chic, easy-to-wear fashions for both the littles and bigs, featuring Island-inspired graphics (by local artist Kyra Ka‘alekahi) and fabrics. Think breezy shifts, asymmetrical maxis and floaty scarves for Mama, soft tees and aloha shirts for Dad, complemented by sweet shorts and tank dresses for kiddos 6 months old to size 5T.

Kahalekulu is all about conscious clothing, using fashion as a form of storytelling and weaving Native Hawaiian culture into the designs and patterns. You’ll spy classic palaka, along with pōhaku stonework and ‘opihi prints. She also strives to keep Kūlua ecofriendly, sourcing fabrics with a low environmental impact and hand-making items locally in small batches.

Just in time for next month’s Made in Maui festival, she’ll be releasing a fresh batch of styles and prints—look out for a striped pāwehe-weave print and watercolor stonework print.
