Weekend Picks
Lei Chic’s guide to the weekend’s best events.
Father Time
What: You need a gift for Dad, stat – and one that’s better than another aloha shirt or grill tools set. A couple great ideas:
1. Take him to Gourmet Cooking Hawaii’s Father’s Day Culinary Party with Chef Elmer Guzman, tonight from 6-8. He’ll cook a three-course meal side-by-side with Chef Elmer – the menu includes steamed clams, prime rib and bread pudding for dessert. Call 808.735.7788 for more info or to book a spot.
2. A nice bottle of scotch from Wine By Numbers. Take Dad to an in-store tasting Friday from 6-8 p.m. or Saturday from 3-6 p.m. and let him sip Glenmorangie, Macallan, and others, and pick a bottle he likes to take home. Call the store for more info, 808.671.1120 or www.winebynumbers.com
When: Before Sunday.
Hot Diggity Dog
What: Free Hot Dog Day at Hot Dog on a Stick. Just show up and get one of their famous corn dogs on a stick. Limit one per person.
When: Friday, 5-8 p.m.
Where: Windward Mall, upper level, next to Fantastic Sams
Details: Call the mall office for more info, 808.235.1143
Cocoa Moco
What: The Masters of Chocolate is a one-day chocolate fantasy, with tastings from specialty chocolate makers in the morning, an afternoon children’s storytelling tea, and a grand chocolate-themed dinner (dark chocolate and sea salt crusted beef strip loin, anyone?).
When: Sunday, tastings begin at 10 a.m., tea at 3 p.m., and the dinner at 5:30 p.m.
Where: The Halekulani, Waikiki
Details: Call for more info and reservations, 808.931.5040
Rock Around the Shop
What: Major clearance sale at Rockabella boutique – only one rack is not on sale, everything else is 50 percent off or more. There’s even a whole rack of denim for $50 each (for jeans that are regularly $150-$275).
