August – The Simone Handbag Museum (yes, the world’s first-ever handbag museum) opens in Seoul, South Korea. Of course, if you can’t afford a plane ticket, check out this small yet impressive sampling, courtesy of Racked.com. Our pick, besides the blood red alligator skin Birkin, is an iridescent gold glass enamel masterpiece with impossibly intricate guilloche engraving, dating back to 1900s France.
October – First, it was Mad Men. Now, Banana Republic is working on another period capsule collection; this time in partnership with the feature film Anna Karenina, starring Keira Knightley. Prices will range from $29.50 for jewelry to $325 for a coat. Costume designer Jacqueline Durran describes the line as a blend of Russian Imperialism austerity and modern Dior style. No word yet if ushankas will be involved.
December – Get ready to spice up your life. Come December, Viva Forever, a musical inspired by the Spice Girls’ rise to fame, opens in London’s Picadilly Theatre. To celebrate, all five Spice Girls, including Victoria Beckham and Geri Halliwell (who left the group in 1998), appeared together on the steps of the St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel, where they shot their very first music video “Wannabe” in 1996. Say, we’ll be there.
