Weekend Picks – March 1, 2012
What: Rush that Christmas list early with University of Hawaii fan gear for up to 50 percent off at the pop-up Rainbowtique Outlet store. Find mens, womens, and kids apparel by everyone from Tori Richard to Under Armour or really score at the five-t-shirts-for-ten-dollar rack.
When: The Outlet store opens tomorrow and closes April 1.
Where: Windward Mall, lower level across from Champs Sports.
Details: All sales are final and cannot be combined with other discounts.
What: Alan Wong's Farmer Series Dinner prix fixe menu will satisfy more than your appetite. While you're dining on dishes such as Maui Cattle Company Steak Tartare in ume sauce and garlic black pepper Kauai shrimp with creamy Maui Surfing Goat Dairy grits, proceeds will benefit the upcoming Taste of the Nation event which raises money to feed hungry children in Hawaii.
When: Reservations are being taken now for the dinner Wednesday, March 14, 5 -10 p.m.
Where: Alan Wong's Honolulu, 1857 S. King St.
Details: $80 for the five-course meal, $110 with wine pairings. Call 808-949-2526 for reservations.
What: HONOLULU Shops Waikiki debuts with camouflage done Dior style, a cube necklace we're still hung up on, and enough beauty, covet-worthy clothes, and accessories finds to fill your "must have list" for months. The ultra-glossy new magazine is created by the fashion editors of HONOLULU Magazine and Lei Chic so you know you're in for a shop-dead read.
When: Arrives in news stands throughout Waikiki tomorrow.
What: The seats don't twist and you may need to sub out the Royale with Cheese for popcorn, but there's something to be said about seeing the Pulp Fiction team back on the big screen for the Hana Hou Picture Show. Get there early for the dance-off before 7 p.m.
When: Wednesday. Shows are at 7 and 10:30 p.m.
Where: Ward Centers.
Details: Tickets are $14.25 online. Mark your calendars for the next picture show. Mel Brook's classic Spaceballs will air April 18.
What: The look is bold, but the new Vicky Gon necklaces and earrings at Fighting Eel Kailua are feather light. Each piece is hand painted on gold leaf-gilded wood.
Where: Fighting Eel Kailua, 629 Kailua Rd.
Details: Earrings are $48, pendant is $53. Call 808-738-9301.
What: Spend seven minutes in heaven (without the embarrassing closet and teen crowd outside experience) or at least meet some great people with a drink in your hand at this month's Speed Dating event. Guys and girls will race through up to ten quick meet-and-greets. Each session is seven minutes long but hopefully the attraction is instant.
When: Reserve your space now for the March 14 event.
Where: Bar 35, 35 N. Hotel St.
Details: For singles in their 20s and 30s. RSVP now (the monthly session usually sells out early) online.
