You know the story of Mulan, but you’ve never seen it this way before. Written and directed by University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa master’s candidate Elizabeth Ung, this existential dramedy features an ensemble representing the heroine’s five distinct personalities. The play examines what it means to embrace and reject one’s identity and legacy.

If you’re not up for a full marathon, here’s a great alternative that you can still brag about completing. And, yes, you’ll receive a hot malasada at the finish line too. The scenic 13.1-mile course starts in Waikīkī and ends at Kapi‘olani Park. Heads-up: expect road closures in the Waikīkī, Ala Moana, Downtown, Kaka‘ako and Diamond Head areas from 3 a.m. to noon.
