Pink-capped swimmers take off from Kaimana Beach, heading for Duke Kahanamoku Beach, 2.4 miles down the coast. It’s the Waikiki Roughwater Swim, and it brings together between 900 and 1,200 entrants from all over Hawaii, the U.S. and the world. This year’s swim takes place on Labor Day, Sept. 5, and raises funds for Swim with Mike and the Physically Challenged Athletes Scholarship Fund. waikikiroughwaterswim.com.
