All the restaurant coverage in this issue got us thinking about our favorite local foods. Then it hit us. Someone needs to make this happen—take the char sui filling of, say, a baked Hee Hing manapua and put it in the middle of a Leonard’s malassada. Is it a dessert? Dinner? Breakfast? A huge mistake? We won’t know until we try! We call it … the malapua. No wait, that word exists, for an Indian pancake. MalaPua? Manassada? You get the idea.
