Actress Melissa McCarthy’s over-the-top impression of President Trump’s press secretary Sean Spicer is helping boost the weekly ratings of the comedy show, and this Saturday’s show especially perked up our ears in Hawai‘i.

McCarthy returned to portray Spicer as the angry convener of the White House press briefings, slamming reporters right and left. Well, mostly left.

When asked about the temporary travel ban from seven Muslim-majority nations, the pretend-Spicer responded by acting out a dialogue with dolls from two prop boxes to demonstrate how airport vetting is working.

He starts with a blond Barbie, then switches to a Moana doll based on the Disney movie Moana.

McCarthy as Spicer: “Ya got your TSA agent right here. First, we got Barbie. Nice American girl, back from her dream vacation. We know she’s OK because she’s blond. So she gets in. Now, who’s up next? Uh oh, it’s Moana. Whoa. Slow your roll, honey. We're gonna pat her down. Then we’re gonna read her emails and if we don't like the answers—which we won’t—BOOM! Guantanamo Bay!”

While Moana is a broadly Polynesian character, she gets a lot of aloha in Hawaiʻi because of our natural affinity for the plucky character. And Honolulu’s own Auli‘i Cravalho plays the character of Moana in the Disney movie. So, paint us more concerned about the threat of packing her off simply based on her appearance.
