As a fellowship-trained cancer urologist, Dr. David Wei tackles all types of urological cancers using highly specialized skills and experiences, game-changing technologies and innovative best-cure treatments. He was an early advocate of Da Vinci robotic surgery, now the leading-edge standard for prostate and kidney cancers, for its precision and its ability to shorten recovery time. Dr. Wei also believes that “skillful use of multi-modality treatment for urological cancer, combining radiation, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy or the newly available immunotherapy, offers the best chance of cure.”

Following his residency training at the renowned University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, Dr. Wei spent his urological cancer fellowship training at New York City’s prestigious Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He is Hawai‘i’s only cancer-fellowship-trained urologist in private practice. As one of four founders of the Hawai‘i Urological Institute, Dr. Wei is part of a team of specialists—each offering individual subspecialty and interest areas—providing patients with the only full range of urological care in private practice in the state, with convenient offices in downtown and West O‘ahu.

As the former chief of the urology divisions at St. Francis West and Hawai‘i Medical Center West, and in private practice since 2004, Dr. Wei is a sought-after second-opinion expert to provide up-to-date National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guideline-based treatment options for newly diagnosed or recurring urological cancer. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese with an experienced office staff with speakers of Tagalog and Ilocano, Dr. Wei is also an assistant clinical professor at the School of Medicine at University of Hawai‘i and a MD Anderson Network Physician.
