Top 9 Highlights from the Hawai‘i Five-0 Season 6 Premiere in Waikīkī

We’ve rounded up the most memorable moments from the Hawai‘i Five-0 Season 6 premiere.

The rain threatened to cancel the Hawai‘i Five-0 Season 6 premiere in Waikīkī on Sept. 12, but that didn’t stop thousands from camping out on Queen’s Beach to celebrate the CBS crime drama’s renewal for another season. The skies cleared up just in time for stars Alex O’Loughlin, Daniel Dae Kim, Grace Park, Chi McBride, Jorge Garcia and guest celebrities to hit the red carpet. Let’s reminisce about what happened on the big day:

1. Arrrrr, Pirates!

We were confused when pirates showed up to the Hawai‘i Five-0 red carpet premiere. Were we attending a red carpet premiere to the Pirates of the Carribbean sequel? Nope. After watching Season 6’s first episode, we learned about a centuries-old story involving pirates who raided the palace for treasures. Our magazine’s founder, King David Kalākaua even made an appearance in the first episode!

2. #CWStrong

Our favorite local DJ SuperCW doesn’t let anything–not even cancer—stop her from spinning tunes. She got the crowd pumping with her energetic personality and contagious big smile. It’s the first time we’ve seen her DJing in the public since undergoing intensive cancer treatments. She’s a rockstar for powering through to kick cancer’s ‘okole. We love you, Christa!

3. The Iron Chef

Masaharu Morimoto, owner of the upscale Morimoto Waikīkī, took a break from the Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival to attend the premiere. You might recall him from Iron Chef and Iron Chef America. Morimoto also appeared as a guest on an episode of Hawai‘i Five-0which involved him training Kamekona to challenge chef Sam Choy in a shrimp cook-off.

4. Dog is in the House!

If things got rowdy, you could count on TV reality stars Beth Chapman and Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman to keep order.

5. A fan favorite

Daniel Dae Kim gets major props for spending time with fans—taking selfies, and signing autographs on everything from a beachball to a hotel room key. Kim high-fived a young fan without jumping over a barricade this time (we’re glad he didn’t rip his shirt). Good job, DDK!

Yup, that’s Grace Park looking stunning in Versace.

To fans, every Friday is Hawai‘i Five-0 day when the CBS crime drama airs. Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell just made it official by proclaiming Sept. 12, 2015 as Hawai‘i Five-0 Day.

9. Sending Out a SOS

We’re stoked to hear Five for Fighting frontman John Ondrasik perform Superman and 100 Years for free. He convinced Hawai‘i Five-0’s executive producer Peter Lenkov to join him on stage to sing. Watch the video below:
