Todd Snyder Mines Reyn Spooner’s Archives For His Vacay-Ready Spring 2019 Collection
One-two punch!

It’s well known that menswear designer Todd Snyder loves a good collaboration. Over the years he’s teamed up to create everything from watches and sunnies to athleisure apparel. So, it only made sense that when it came to his Spring 2019 collection, built around American tourist staples and laid-back vacation vibes, he turned his sartorial eye toward Island favorite Reyn Spooner.
The pairing was as effortless as Snyder’s silhouettes. His relationship with Reyn Spooner creative director Doug Burkman goes way back—the two first connected during their early days in NYC. And Snyder has been an avid vintage collector since his time at Ralph Lauren in the ’90s. “Reyn Spooner is the best for printed aloha shirts dating back to the ’60s,” he says. “I wanted to do something authentic, so I decided to go to the source.
“The brand was started by a tailor in Hawai‘i. That really topped it off!”
The alohawear label gave Snyder access to its vintage archives in the Islands, from which he selected six fabrics featuring some of the brand’s most iconic prints. He then transformed the tropical flower, palm leaf, fish and lighthouse motifs into breezy apparel and accessories.
Initially, the pieces were intended solely for Snyder’s runway show, but response was so great that he decided to produce pieces from four of the looks (above) for sale in his main line. Think casual-cool camp shirts with matching shorts, blazers, hats and show-stopping suits, all poised to turn every day into aloha Friday.
