Film talks around town
There are two upcoming film events you should plan to attend.
First, Kapi‘olani Community College is presenting animation-visual-effect artist Yancey Lindquist on Tuesday, March 3, 7 to 9 p.m. Lindquist has worked with DreamWorks Animation for 11 years and supervised the film Rise of the Guardians. She also worked on a slew of films such as Shrek Forever After, Monsters vs. Aliens, Flushed Away and Shark Tale. The talk is free and open to the public.

March 12 is the date for the next Ward Village Courtyard Cinema, which will feature the film Laggies. The film stars Kiera Knightly and Chloë Grace Moretz, and tells the story of a woman going through a quarter-life crisis. Its director, Lynn Shelton, will be at the event to present the film and to answer questions. It’s free and open to the public, but tickets must be reserved online in advance.

Peter and the Starcatcher
Thursday, March 5 to Sunday, March 22
Mānoa Valley Theatre presents the prequel to the story of Peter Pan this month with a dozen actors playing more than 100 characters. Learn the backstory of Peter and his ragtag group The Lost Boys in this epic adventure.

Honolulu Festival
Friday, March 6 to Sunday, March 8
In its 21st year, the Honolulu Festival celebrates cultures from across the Pacific. The three-day event will include a parade, dance performances, cultural demonstrations and the Friendship Gala dining event with dishes by some of Hawai‘i’s best chefs. Check out the website for the full schedule.

Ko Olina Children’s Film & Music Festival
Saturday, March 7
West Side resorts Ihilani and Aulani play host for this second annual film festival, featuring live stage performances and family-friendly films from Disney and the Hawai‘i International Film Festival. Frozen will be screened at sunset. All ticket proceeds go to Kapi‘olani Medical Center.
