1. Aotearoa New Zealand Film Festival
Now through Friday, Aug. 8
If watching men and women perform the haka onscreen isn’t enough reason to see these New Zealand films, go for the Hawaiian music-inspired Aotearoa documentary film Kotiro Maori E. The film’s namesake is a popular Maori song and explores its connection to Eleanor Prendergast’s Hawaiian mele Kaulana Na Pua, which was written in 1893 for the Royal Hawaiian Band.

2. DJ Colette at Eleven44
Friday, Aug. 8
There’s nothing new about out-of-town house DJs playing in Honolulu, but we are looking forward to DJ Colette because she sings, too. Stop by this Friday night and listen to her angelic voice cutting through the beats in a way any music lover will adore. The night also features local house DJs Sam Lamb, Captain Timo and Rob Chiong.

3. Ballet Hawaii’s Peter Pan at Blaisdell

Pretend that you never grew up and watch Peter Pan interpreted into a ballet dance. The performance features choreography by The Washington Ballet artistic director Septime Webre and dancers from Carolina Ballet, Ballet Hawaii and The Washington Ballet.

Hawaii Shakespeare Festival’s Edward III
Friday, Aug. 8 through Sunday, Aug. 17
Edward III is the second of three Shakespeare plays being performed in the 13th season of Hawaii’s Shakespeare festival. Let the actors transport you to England as main character Edward III defends his kingdom from a Scottish invasion and obsesses over another man’s wife.

5. Second Annual REAL Beer Festival

7. Oahu Heart Walk

Support the American Heart Association by taking part in its 21st annual non-competitive Oahu Heart Walk. Choose from two routes, a one-mile walk around Kapiolani Park or a 4.5-mile walk around Diamond Head, and stay for the Health Fair and Kids’ Zone Fun Fair after the walk. Join a team or participate on your own.
