Throughout August, stop by KAHALA MKT. by Foodland to discover the joy of all things rice with curated local and international products, ready-to-enjoy eats and more. From truffle bacon musubi to a mouthwatering jambalaya recipe to locally brewed sake and more, you’ll find new ways to love the diverse staple.
Rice to Meet You
Customers entering KAHALA MKT. by Foodland will be greeted by a fully loaded display of the store team’s favorite made-in-Hawai‘i rice finds, which include: several varieties of Japan-grown, locally polished rice from The Rice Factory Honolulu; okoshi from O‘ahu confectioner Huff ‘n Puff Delights, available in a range of local flavors; and Hawai‘i’s first-ever commercially made sake, crafted by Islander Sake Brewery. Elsewhere in the store look for KAHALA MKT. by Foodland’s brand-new, collectible “Have a Rice Day!” canvas tote and other cool rice-related items such as paella pans, rice bowls, musubi molds, a multitude of international rice varieties for home cooking and more.
Plus, Aug. 8 through 17, spend $75 or more at the store and you’ll receive an It’s All Rice at MKT. rice paddle free, while supplies last.
Everything in Its Rice Place
KAHALA MKT. by Foodland’s hot-food counter, grab-and-go section and bakery are where you’ll find a mouthwatering and imaginative selection of rice-infused and -inspired prepared foods created by “Mr. Rice Guys” Chef Keoni Chang and Chef de Cuisine Brian Nagai. Enjoy crave-worthy onigiri creations, such as taegu kim chee musubi, “Philly” musubi and truffle bacon musubi, plus dishes such as Mr. Rice Guys’ lemongrass chicken ginger rice bowl and roasted pork curry rice bowl, available at the hot-food station. Pastry Chef Brian Sung is keeping the bakery section filled with ready-to-eat bags of his tasty take on murmura, the traditional Indian puffed-rice treat, in Indian curry and furikake arare flavors.
In addition, et al. joins the It’s All Rice at MKT. celebration with a three-course “Just Rice” tasting menu featuring a short rib arancini; “chazuke” risotto with Tristan lobster tail, diver scallops and Manila clams; and crispy butter mochi with puffed rice, available with optional specially paired sake for each dish.
