Hawaii Quilt Guild Show

May 5-15

Take in the deft artistry of local quilt-makers at Linekona Arts Center at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Guild members host the exhibition annually; this year’s features more than 300 quilts. hawaiiquiltguild.org.

World Fireknife Competition

May 11-14

Watch as more than 20 fireknife dancers from around the world—ranging from boys to men—compete to become the world champion during the competition at the Polynesian Cultural Center. polynesia.com.

Ninth Annual Wahiawa Pineapple Festival

May 14-15

The Battle of the Paddle

May 14-15

Catch some waves at Duke Kahanamoku Beach, during the stand-up paddle festival, which includes an SUP relay, a keiki race and the elite race, in which first place wins $25,000. There’s also an SUP expo and family water activities. battleofthepaddle.com.

Phoenix Dance Chamber Fundraiser

May 15

Help raise money for the Hawaii Foundation for Chinese Culture and Arts (which includes the dance chamber) during a luncheon at the New Empress Restaurant from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event includes a Chinese folk-dance performance, a silent auction and a raffle. August: Osage County

May 19-June 5

Winner of a Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this play revolves around the reunion of the Weston family in Osage County, Okla. The characters encounter death, dysfunction, racism, substance abuse and, ultimately, love. manoavalleytheatre.com.
