The movie to watch tonight in Honolulu
![]() |
I know, I know, you want to watch Prometheus. Well, that will play for weeks but you only have one night to see This is Not a Film, a documentary by and about Iranian director Jafar Panahi. It plays tonight, June 8, in the Friends of Film Friday series at the Doris Duke Theatre. It was made while Panahi was under house arrest in Tehran after being sentenced to prison—and being banned from making films for 20 years—for having criticized the Iranian government through his art.
There’s a reception from 6 to 7:30, the film screens at 7:30.
Tickets available at tix.com or at the door, general admission is $15.
See the trailer at iTunes.
Two years ago, I blogged about Panahi when I realized that the same director making the news at the time for his arrest had had a film here, Crimson and Gold, in the Hawaii International Film Festival.
