The LYLAS' new TV show premieres this Friday on WE

Jaime, Tahiti, Presley and Tiara Hernandez share a famous brother in the singer Bruno Mars, but they don't want you to know that. Or, rather, they really do want you to know about them, but for the right reasons. And so goes the age-old story of pop star siblings, struggling to make it on their own merit.

Given what the sisters consider an equal distribution of musical talent across the family, they've decided not to let the boys (brother Eric is the drummer in Bruno’s band) take up so much of the spotlight. The girls have come together to form the band The LYLAS (Internet shorthand for ‘love you like a sister,’ made a bit redundant by the fact that they really are sisters). This Friday marks the premiere of their new reality show by the same name.

The series, which will air on the Women’s Entertainment network, follows the girls as they trade Oahu for L.A., Spam for Mexican food (“You can’t eat Spam there and it not be a secret shame,” Tiara declares) and, hopefully, obscurity for success as a girl group. The cameras don't shy away from the girls' private dramas, either: the difficulty of leaving their children and families on the island while they're chasing the dream, as well as the unexpected passing of their own mother.

The LYLAS don't get the chance to sing much in the pilot (the source of their first blowout with management), but they have a certain charm. The more the girls try to convince the cameras that they're wildly different from each other, the more like sisters they seem, which is a good thing. The more they mention not wanting to be seen as Bruno's sisters, the more you see them that way.  Given his album sales, that might not be such a bad thing either.
