The HONOLULU 100 – Meet the Selection Committee
John K.S. Aeto is the director of sales for Cox Radio Hawaii. Aeto is involved with such community boards as those of the Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl, Muscular Dystrophy Association and Kumu Kahua Theatre.
Aeto’s pick for an additional honoree would be Larry Lindsey Kimura, a Hawaiian language professor and founding president of Aha Punana Leo.
Peter Apo
A founding member of the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association (NaHHA), Peter Apo serves as its director of culture and education. He chairs the Historic Hawaii Foundation and Pacific Islanders in Communications. He has been director of culture and the arts for the city and county of Honolulu, a member of the Hawaii state House of Representatives and a trustee of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.

DeSoto Brown is the collection manager of Bishop Museum Archives, where he oversees the care of photographs, artwork, manuscripts, films and videos, audio recordings and maps. He’s authored or collaborated on 10 books on different aspects of Hawaii’s 20th-century history. |

Helen Chapin, Ph.D., is vice president emerita and former professor of English at Hawaii Pacific University. She is the author and editor of numerous books and articles on Hawaii. Chapin’s pick for an additional honoree would be Bob Krauss, for his “Our Honolulu” column of 50 years running in The Honolulu Advertiser. |
A former contributing editor to HONOLULU Magazine, Bob Dye is a freelance writer. Author of Merchant Prince of the Sandalwood and editor of the Hawaii Chronicles series, he is currently completing a novel. He was formerly an aide to Democratic mayor Frank Fasi. |

A Hawaii resident since 1972, McCall has three CDs out, The Gift, Body & Soul and Harlem Nocturne (both of the latter two receiving Hoku Awards). McCall teaches be-bop jazz and scat singing. Vicky Holt Takamine is the founder and kumu hula of Pua Ali’i ‘Ilima. In addition, she teaches hula at UH Manoa and Leeward Community College. She co-founded and is president of ‘Ilio’ulaokalani, a coalition of traditional practitioners committed to protecting their Hawaiian customs and traditions. She is also the co-founder and president of KAHEA: The Hawaiian Environ-mental Alliance, a coalition committed to protecting the natural and cultural environment of Hawai’i. |

Linda Wong served as chief of staff to former mayor Frank Fasi and over the years has worked in appointed positions in the state House of Representatives, the state Senate and the office of the lieutenant governor. She is currently president of World of Aloha, which is involved with the restoration and preservation of the Historic Kahalu’u Fishpond. She is president and owner of Ellington Corp., a real estate management and consulting firm. |
