The Hitt List: My Weekend Picks
It’s been awhile since a weekend has been this jam-packed, so have a good one!

Tonight, F&M is going “HOME”—to the old W, that is. F&M has a long history there, and I have a feeling that this new weekly Friday night event is going to make it the new weekend hotspot. It may also finally help give the Lotus Hotel the new identity it has been waiting for since the owners changed hands. 21+, 9 p.m. – 2 a.m., free before 9 p.m., $10 before 10 p.m., www.flashandmattyboypresent.com for more info.
Saturday, head over to Kapolei for the Global Dance Festival at the Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park—which was recently bought by Wet ‘n Wild. The festival promises a production like no other in Hawaii, so if you’re curious, like me, you’ll be there. There will be three stages for this 11-hour festival with live bands, such as Natural Vibrations and Ooklah the Moc; numerous big city DJs from Honolulu, Denver, Las Vegas and Los Angeles; and, random entertaining acts across the park such as a B-Boy—and, girl—competition, stilt walkers, fire dancers, exhibits and more. 18+ with multiple 21+ drinking areas, 5 p.m. to 4 a.m., Tickets range from $30-40, military discounts available. www.globaldancefestival.com
If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet for Mamma Mia! now is a great time to buy them, since you’re sitting at your computer anyway, I mean. See my previous blog, “Don’t Miss Mamma Mia!,” for my review.
Two big events are happening all weekend that involve books and babies—both things I love! The 4th Annual Hawaii Book & Music Festival begins Saturday at 10 a.m. through Sunday at 8 p.m. on the Civic Grounds with music, activities for kids and panel discussions such as “Designing a Sense of Place,” which HONOLULU’s editor, A. Kam Napier will be moderating. Saturday will also kick-off the New Baby Expo at the Neal Blaisdell Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Not just for babies, your kids will enjoy the play areas while you listen to experts talk about infant and toddler first aid and about how to teach your child a foreign language. For more information on both of these events, visit www.newbabyexpo.com and www.hawaiibookandmusicfestival.org .
Lastly, I never talk about movies, but this is a good weekend to watch one. I’m hearing great reviews about Star Trek, since it took the top spot from Wolverine. And, Angels & Demons is now playing—a treat for all Dan Brown fans.
