The Best Shopping, Sales and Dining Events This Weekend in Honolulu
9 events to sweeten your weekend.
Shop
What: The sassier little sister to the Valentino house, REDValentino, will be unveiling its Fall 2014 collection this coming weekend. The looks have the youthful, whimsical appeal you'd expect from the brand, with darker tones than its last season's pop-art palette. Think pleated black schoolgirl skirts and tulle-covered tutus, with casual sweatshirts and oversize blazers rounding out the collection.
When: Saturday, August 9, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: REDValentino, Ala Moana Center
Details: The event will include cocktails and light bites.

Bee Nice
What: The number of managed honeybees in the US has dropped by almost half in the last 40 years. Even if you're not a honey-lover (what is wrong with you?), you should be concerned, since about one third of our diet relies on the pollination work that bees do. Help our sweet little bee friends out by purchasing Muumuu Heaven Aloha Bee T-shirts and tea towels. Proceeds from the sales will go to the Hawaii Honey Beekeeper's Association.
When: Until National Honeybee Day, Aug. 16
Where: Muumuu Heaven, 767 Kailua Road
Details: Read what else Hawaii is doing for the bees on Biting Commentary.

Life in El Barrio
What: We were stoked to get a peek inside the new Barrio Vintage before anyone else last week, but the real party is still to come this Friday at the grand opening. The Barrio boys will finally pull out that stock of special boutique pieces they've been saving up just for the event, and you'll be able to sample refreshments and vibe to live DJs.
When: Friday, Aug. 8, 5–10 p.m.
Where: 1161 Nuuanu Ave.
Details: The Barrio boys have also promised us a few "surprises." Have we piqued your interest yet?

Captain Hook'ed
What: From book to Disney movie to live-action movie to theatrical piece—the story about the boy who never grows up doesn't seem to get old. You loved Peter Pan as a kid, but you'll want to see it in the Ballet Hawaii way: through dance. Will Tiger Lily be as cool as you remember her from the cartoon? Will Tinkerbell be as annoying when she's in pointe shoes? Wait a minute, the crocodile is a dancer? Answer all these questions and more at the show.
When: Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m.
Where: Neal S. Blaisdell Concert Hall, 777 Ward Ave.
Details: Tickets range from $35–$99. Visit ballethawaii.org to purchase.

Take A Bite Outta This

Some highlights: the insane-sounding Zombie Sharks and Alien Sharks: Return to the Abyss.

Where: Discovery Channel
Details: Don't miss the Shark Week talk show every night at 8 p.m.

Flower Power
What: You know how much we love flowers. But, honestly, our skills run out after the flowers are picked. Thankfully, in honor of its second birthday, J'Adore Floral Designs is holding a workshop to teach participants how to make these beautiful natural baubles even more beautiful. You'll walk away with one of your own handmade arrangements, so book your dinner parties for that night and stun guests with your floral skills.

Where: J'Adore Floral Designs, 828 Pine St.
Details: $50 includes all supplies, food and drink. RSVP to chantelle@jadorefloral.net.
