2. Eat: Kaimuki Superette

What: Your head must be in the sand if you haven't heard the news that Kaimuki Superette is now open. Chef Ed Kenney wows us (again) with a not-so-literal, prettier version of a superette, offering sandwiches and salads including a South Shore He‘e roll (a local turn on a New England lobster roll) and an open-face porchetta sandwich. Dine in for lunch, then grab a jar of watermelon rind kim chee, fresh house made pasta and Shinsato pork sausages to make dinner at home.

5. Attend: Greek Preview

What: Dust your toga off, it’s time for the 33rd Annual Greek Festival. Opah! Take in live entertainment including the lively beats of Apollo, an L.A. based band specializing in Greek music, and the Nisiotes Dancers, a traditional folk dancing group. Hungry? Freshly made gyros, loukoumathes (Greek malasadas), spanakopitas (think savory baklavas) and more are worth an alpha beta try.

When: Saturday-Sunday, August 23-24, noon – 9 p.m.

Where: Ala Moana Beach Park, McCoy Pavillion.

6. Watch: Jersey Score

What: You’ve been waiting for it, the final season of Boardwalk Empire. What if you had the opportunity to see it on a big screen, before anyone else!! Well Nucky you! Ward Theatres is doing a free advanced screening of the critically acclaimed HBO series season’s five first episode. And even if you’re not into the angry mob thing, at least go for the timeless fashions, it would be a crime not to.
