The Best Dining, Shopping and Sales Events This Weekend in Honolulu

July 24, 2014: Lei Chic’s guide to the weekend’s best events.

Shop

A Fixer Upper
What:
Olive Boutique and Oliver Men’s Shop are teaming up with The Fix for a fashion show on Saturday that will feature jewelry and apparel lines carried by the stores, such as Young, Fabulous and Broke, Maison Scotch, Roark and Aloha Sunday. Yes, there will be live art, food, a DJ and a bar, too. Does the Olive/Oliver team know what we want, or what?
When: Saturday, July 26, 6–10 p.m. Fashion show at 7 p.m.
Where: The Fix, 315 Uluniu St.
Details: Call Olive Boutique at 263-9919 or Oliver Men’s Shop at 261-6587 for more information.

Eat

Spicy World
What:
Spicy ginger cookies. Spicy Mexican chocolate macarons. Fried spicy-lemongrass pork musubi. Have we got your attention yet? This month’s Eat The Street theme is, you guessed it, spicy, and to be frank: You should start starving yourself now. It’s the only way you’ll have enough room to eat EVERYTHING.
When: Friday, July 25, 4–9 p.m.
Where: South Street Lot, 555 South St.
Details: Visit eatthestreet.com for more information, or read Frolic Hawaii’s breakdown of vendors.

Drink

Beer Garden Party
What:
Get your grill on at Brasserie Du Vin’s July Brewer’s Table, which features four beautiful barbecue courses with beer pairings, proving some things are just meant for each other. Those things are your mouth, a slew of top-notch brews, lobster corn dog, Cornish game hen, baby back ribs and an apple and chocolate dessert.
When: Friday, July 25 at 6 p.m.
Where: Brasserie Du Vin, 1115 Bethel St.
Details: $50 per person. Reserve in advance by calling 545-1115.

Shop

Gone Fishin’
What:
This ain’t your grandma’s fish market. Modern home and décor store fishcake’s Summer Fishmarket will feature enough stylish pop-up shops and vintage finds to make your hipster head swim. Check out apparel from We Are Iconic and Middi, paper goodies from South Shore Paperie and Peculiar Papel, and trinkets from Mono and Vintage Rose. Food from Ginger & Smoke and Menehune Mac will be available to keep your shopping stamina up.
When: Sunday, July 27, 11 a.m.–4 p.m.
Where: 307C Kamani St.
Details: Parking available at Lanai Things. Email info@fishcake.com or call 593-1231 for more information.

Reserve

This Feels Write
What:
The power of the written word: No one understands it better than calligraphy guru Maybelle Imasa Stukuls, who travels the world teaching the art. Calligraphers-in-training who want in on her expertise will have a chance at her workshop next week Sunday, but should reserve a spot, like, now, because space is limited to 20. The event will include a lovely afternoon tea and cake break and all participants will receive a deluxe calligraphy set for their future pen-deavors.
When: Sunday, August 3, 2–5 p.m.
Where: Cookspace, Ward Warehouse
Details: $350 per student. Space is limited. Call 589-1900 or 277-6999 to reserve a seat.

Watch

Phan the Fire
What:
If you haven’t heard of vlogging empress Michelle Phan—who reportedly earned a cool $5 mil from her makeup how-to videos last year—you must not have the internet. Now, she’s getting sued by Ultra Records for copyright infringement on Ultra-owned music by artists such as Kaskade. Because this is all kinds of BS (and even Kaskade admits it), what better way to stick it to the man (and also finally master the smoky eye) than spend a weekend supporting Michelle and watching all her awesome vids? At the very least, you can get a head start on Halloween.
Where: Go to michellephan.com to watch new and old videos.
Details: Phan started posting videos in high school and garnered a massive following with videos like her Barbie Transformation Tutorial, which has been viewed more than 50 million times.

Go Bananas
What:
This collab trend going on right now is seriously getting your work wardrobe turnt up. Hellooo, Roland Mouret capsule collection for Banana Republic, which released a lookbook just this past week. It’s full of oh-so-cool, oh-so-profesh dresses and separates that hug all the right curves in a (mostly) HR-approved way. We’re talking slimming pencil skirts, cropped sweaters and pops of geometric detailing that will be all the rage at the office water cooler.
When: The collection comes out August 7
Where: View the lookbook on vogue.com
Details: Prices range from $49.50–$165

Shop

Slam Trunk
What:
Recycling: Good for the earth and just as good for your closet. At least it is at the Noelani trunk show this Friday. The show will feature Sirena + the Sea’s unique braided rope jewelry, which is made from upcycled Indian silk saris, for a unique and sustainable fashion statement. Also available will be Teeki clothing, a line of capris and shorts that are actually made out of plastic bottles.
When: Friday, July 25, 3–6 p.m.
Where: Noelani Studios, 66-437 Kamehameha Highway
Details: Call 389-3709 for more information.
