Breathtaking outfits made from atypical materials, such as taxidermy birds or wood, stood out in the World of WearableArt international design competition held in New Zealand. Now, 32 award-winning pieces will travel to Hawai‘i for the first U.S. display of the exhibition. Expect the unexpected.

“The Art of Peace” Gala

For the Domestic Violence Action Center’s 25th anniversary of helping victims of abuse, the organization is putting together a night of performance and visual arts, jewelry, fashion and a silent auction, all on the theme of how art provides hope and healing. Pegge Hopper donated one of her designs (above) to commemorate the milestone. See it on reusable bags or mugs you can purchase at the event.

The Rough Riders

Three of Hawai‘i’s greatest musicians, Henry Kapono, John Cruz and Brother Noland, wrap up their “We Ride” tour of the West Coast and the Islands at the Hawai‘i Theatre. We may all be touched by cancer in our lives, whether through our own diagnoses or those of loved ones. Help the American Cancer Society raise money to support research, provide care and educate patients while completing a 5K. After all, exercise does help prevent illness.
