If you haven’t been to this event, now in its 10th year, you’ve never seen remote-controlled aircraft like this: They’re one-fourth-scale models of warbirds, jets and helicopters, performing stunts and dogfighting for the crowd. It’s also the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Midway. Bring the keiki for “candy bombings,” activities and rides, and check out the restoration of the B-17E Swamp Ghost and Nakajima Kate planes.

You don’t have to honor the legendary Norman Collins by getting a Sailor Jerry tattoo, but you can stop by his old shop on Smith Street, watch the documentary Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry: The Life of Norman K. Collins, and dance to Danish rockers Nekromantix, who will be performing at NextDoor. Every year, this festival kicks Obon season into high gear with one of the largest bon dances in Hawai‘i. Come for the food, stay for the dancing. Parking is free at the top of the UH structure and the Music and Law School parking lots, with shuttles running down University Avenue from 4 to 10 p.m.
