Lele O Nā Manu: Hawaiian Forest Birds

Learn about native birds and how they are connected to the local ecosystem and culture, including feather cloaks of the ali‘i. Taxidermy birds can show you what extinct species once looked like. If birds aren’t your thing, check out Sweet: A Tasty Journey for an inside look at the candy industry, on view through May 30. The museum is now open seven days a week (yay!) but, heads up, it’s $5 per vehicle to park in the lot (boo!).

The Book of Mormon

The guys behind South Park teamed up with the guy who wrote Frozen’s “Let It Go” to create a Broadway musical about Mormon missionaries in Uganda. The result? Nine Tonys, four Drama Desk Awards, four Outer Critics Circle Awards and a Grammy. But, according to the LDS Church, “The book is always better.”

Earth Day Festival and Ultimate Sand Sifter Competition

Celebrate the ‘āina in a meaningful and direct way by cleaning up debris along the longest stretch of beach on O‘ahu. Winners from round one of the Ultimate Sand Sifter Competition will also showcase their beach-cleaning inventions, with the champions from each division earning a $1,000 prize.

It’s Paniolo Night at the 11th annual festival, so of course there will be pony rides, in addition to food from many local restaurants. Your best bet for parking is around the neighborhood or at Kalani High School, from which a shuttle will run back and forth throughout the evening.
