The 7 Best Ways to Shop and Play This Week (Plus Sales!)
Lei Chic's guide to the weekend's best events.
MEET
Make It Work
What: It's round two for Hawai'i when it comes to Project Runway. Local fashion fixture Ari South already wowed the country as a finalist in season 8, and now Kini Zamora is repping the Aloha State hard on the show's 13th season. Meet the man behind the fashions today (go! right now!) at Honolulu Community College's Kini Zamora Day, where the Fashion Technology Department is hosting Zamora at an open house. You can check out his garments as well as some from current Fashion Technology Department students. Seriously—go right now!
When: Today, 10 a.m–noon
Where: Honolulu Community College, Room 27-204
Details: Call 729-0134 for more information
ATTEND
My Hero
What: Spiderman. Gandhi. Dad. Everyone has his or her own personal hero. This Saturday, Current Affairs, an event planning company, will screen Legends of the Knight, a documentary about real-life heroes who have overcome obstacles and given back to their communities, all for their love of Batman. The event will also feature a superhero costume parade, a Hero Recognition Awards ceremony, food and drinks. Proceeds benefit Hospice Hawai‘i, Joshua Neves Children’s Foundation, Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women and Children, PATCH and Visitor Aloha Society of Hawai‘i.
When: Saturday, Oct. 18, 4:30–8 p.m.
Where: Changed to the Neal Blaisdell Arena, due to Tropical Storm Ana
Details: $30 for reserved seating and $20 for adult general seating, available at all Ticketmaster locations. Visit heroesofaloha.com for more information. (All tickets bought from the Waikiki Shell will be honored.)

WATCH
Peak Form
What: In 1989, in the town of Twin Peaks, a dead blonde girl in an eerie red room said, “I’ll see you in 25 years.” Fast-forward to today, Twin Peaks co-creators David Lynch and Mark Frost are gearing up for a nine-episode reboot, and we couldn’t be more stoked. Will all our questions finally be answered? What does Diane look like? What happened to Cooper? Is the coffee as good as it used to be? Obviously, we’ll be spending this weekend re-watching the entire two seasons of the ’90s show (currently streaming on Netflix) to brush up on our Twin Peaks trivia.
When: The season is set to debut in 2016 on Showtime.
Where: Watch all the old episodes on Netflix.
Details: All these #twinpeaks mentions on Kyle MacLachlan’s Twitter are just making us more excited.
SHOP
Mod Squad
What: ModCloth is so hip and twee, it was doing it before you’d even heard of hip and twee. And like a typical hipster, ModCloth has teamed up with a fellow hipster for a super-cool collab we all want to get in on. Nicolette Mason is a fashion blogger and Marie Claire columnist whose cutesy, girly, retro-chic pieces are just what ModCloth lovers are looking for. Think polka dots and full skirts, Peter Pan collars and French-language graphic knits. Even better? The sizes go from XS to 4X—all ladies welcome!
Where: modcloth.com
Details: Check out Nicolette Mason’s blog here.

SHOP
Smoke Signals
What: Excuse me, miss? It appears your eyes are smoking—smokin’ hot with that expert smoky eye, that is. Perfect your smoky technique this weekend at the Sephora Collection Smoky Eye Event. Get an exclusive, personalized consultation with the Sephora makeup artists as they craft the look on you, right in-store, and stock up on insider tips and tricks. Oh, great. The smoke alarm just went off.
When: Friday, Oct. 17, 3–9 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 18, noon–6 p.m.
Where: Sephora, 2250 Kalākaua Ave. on Saturday. Sephora, Ala Moana Center on Sunday.
Details: Freebie alert: When you spend $25 on Sephora Collection items, get a limited-edition makeup bag filled with seven deluxe samples.
DONATE
Puppy Love
What: Your golden retriever gets you more than any boy ever will, and your chihuahua is a better best friend than any of your GFs. The lesson? Pets are better than people. Show your love for the little critters by donating a new toy for an orphaned pet as part of the Hawaiian Humane Society’s toy drive. They’ll probably love it way more than your sister will love that gift card you plan to get her, and it will cost way less.
When: Through Nov. 20
Where: Visit hawaiianhumanesociety.com for a comprehensive list of drop-off locations.
Details: You can also get your family photo (pets included, of course!) with Santa Paws (aaaaaaww), with proceeds going to benefit the Hawaiian Humane Society. Call 356-2225 for more information.
