Taimane Weaves Turkish and Hawaiian Mythology in “Serpentwined”
The ‘ukulele artist shot the enchanting video for her latest single at Shangri La Museum.

Taimane’s latest single, “Serpentwined,” tells the stories of two powerful female figures, serpentine goddess Shahmaran and Hawaiian mo‘o wahine Kalamainu‘u. The singer-songwriter and ‘ukulele star shot a video for the song at the Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design, drawing inspiration from the center’s rich collection of global Islamic art. Taimane served as an artist-in-residence there in 2024, immersing herself in the mythology of Shahmaran, a serpent queen of Indo-Iranian and Turkic folklore. Inspired by her tale, Taimane wove it with Kalamainu‘u’s story to create the memorable video.
