Sweet home Waimanalo

You've seen those bumper stickers that say "New York – London – Paris – Waimanalo" as a satirical way of putting rural Oahu on par with ritzy destinations of haute couture. However, this swanky Waimanalo home could sport one of those stickers, for real.

You can't really tell from the inside or out that this home is 76 years old, especially since it is part of an older area. It's been completely renovated, with many contemporary elements and a refined design that doesn't match our preconceived notions of Waimanalo. (Click here for details.)

It's oceanfront, of course, and you can see the view from the spacious dining and living rooms, as well as the master bedroom—which has its own deck for taking in the panorama.

There's lots of room in this five-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom residence, as the living area spans 5,168 square feet over two floors. The lot is 13,421 square feet, which includes a lounging area in the back with an above-ground hot tub.

All this space makes it easy to entertain guests; the spacious gourmet kitchen has a lot of (granite) counter space and features new appliances and mahogany cabinets. The materials all have warm, rich colors—materials and designs you see in many Kahala homes, but not as much in rural areas.

It's an interesting find, and probably a good place to escape the frantic pace of town.
