Sweet home in Waimanalo

This custom home in Waimanalo is a good example of how you can have a contemporary lifestyle in the country. And it’s just minutes from Kailua, so you’re not far from the activities of the area.

When Carl Higgins’ client first bought this home, he was looking for a newer house that could fit all his furniture. The very private master suite with views and a 10×10-foot walk-in closet won him over, as did the large secondary bedrooms, the breakfast-barkitchen and a living/family-room combo that would fit most of his belongings.

The residence is an ample 2,803 square feet, with three bedrooms and 2.1 bathrooms. Split air conditioning in every room makes it comfortable, although Waimanalo is pretty cool already.

In addition to having more than enough space for someone with a lot of furniture, there’s a good amount of storage. The original owner wanted a large garage plus storage, so they built a 450-square-foot garage and added a generously sized storage room off the laundry room.

After the current owner bought it, he added various bathroom and kitchen fixtures, including a “touch” kitchen sink water dispenser. The newer appliances include a Sub Zero-Wolf six-burner gas range oven, and the granite in the kitchen was selected because it resembles the greenish color of Kaneohe Bay.

Other features include custom window blinds, custom paint colors, auto lawn sprinklers, and a security system. The lot is 8,223 square feet, and is full of tropical landscaping—not that you’d forget you live in Hawaii, but it’s a nice touch.
