Panya Waikiki
Panya turned 13 this month and celebrates with special deals, such as 99-cent red velvet mini cupcakes. Panya’s menu includes a taste of both Asian and Western cuisine. Selections range from specialty cakes to its popular Hokkaido bread ($3.25). “We created a menu of food that we like to eat and recipes we discover while traveling,” says co-owner and founder, Annie Yeung. One of Panya’s must-tries are its breakfast danishes, in chocolate, mixed fruit or coconut ($1.50 to $1.75). There’s even a bacon danish ($1.75) Royal Hawaiian Center, 2233 Kalakaua Ave. 791-2969. Locations also at Queen St, Ala Moana and Downtown. panyagroup.com.

The Little Oven
A colorful array of desserts, such as the mini pink satin cupcakes ($6.50), lilikoi pavlova ($6.50) and chocolate dobash are a few of the many special creations offered at The Little Oven. The dessert menu always changes, but that’s not the only thing that varies. Inconsistent hours make Twitter the only way to keep track of when this cozy shop will be open–making a night out for desserts an even sweeter treat on days it is open. 1467 South King St. 947-6836, lilovenhi.com, twitter.com/liloven.

Cafe Kaila
Cafe Kaila is a perfect reason to wake up at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday. Be prepared to wait in line if you get there a little later, but it’s well worth it. A cozy little place that always smells of freshly brewed coffee, no wonder it’s one of Honolulu’s favorite breakfast spots. The buttermilk pancakes ($6.95) melt in your mouth, the Belgian malted waffles ($6.95) are light and crispy served with butter and syrup, and let’s not forget the list of fresh fruits to choose from. There are also special deals such as the traditional Eggs Benedict ($12.95), served with golden brown potatoes. Market City Shopping Center, 2929 Kapiolani Boulevard. 732-3330.
