Summer Programs 2018: What’s Still Available?

Classes and camps are filling up fast. Here’s what’s left.

Summer programs update 2018

If your kids aren’t enrolled in summer activities for 2018, time’s running out. Many programs have waiting lists or no longer are accepting students. Here’s a list of available programs as of May 25. We will update this list as information comes in. 

1. Art Explorium

Spaces are available for one-week camps for kids ages 6-10. Morning sessions are from June 11 to June 15, and afternoon sessions are from June 25 to June 29. Artexplorium.org/summercamp2018

2. City & County of Honolulu Summer Fun 

Summer Fun and Summer Plus run from June 14 to July 27. Most of the sites are accepting applications, but some are nearing capacity. Call the parks and sites to inquire. honolulu.gov/parks/program/summer-fun-program/182-site-dpr-cat/1889-summer-fun-program-sites-2015.html

3. Soto Academy

Spaces are available for the summer session, which runs from June 4 to July 13 for grades K-5. sotoacademy.org

4. Quickstars Tutoring

Apply anytime during the summer, as this is an open-enrollment program. Tutoring primarily is for ages 2-19.

5. Honolulu Zoo

There are 12 weekly sessions from May 29 to Aug. 17. Some weeks are closed, due to high demand. For ages 4-5, the sold-out weeks are July 23-27 “Summer Science,” July 30-Aug. 3 “Animal Olympics” and Aug. 6-10 “Animal Adaptations.” For ages 6-7, there are no openings for June 4-8 “ABC Animals,” July 23-27 “Summer Science” and July 30-Aug. 3 “Animal Olympics.” For ages 8-10, the sold-out weeks are July 23-27 “Summer Science” and July 30-Aug. 3 “Animal Olympics.”

6. Play To Learn Tennis

Spaces are available for Summer Session 1, which runs from June 4 to July 9, and Summer Session 2, which runs from July 23 to Aug. 27.

7. Hawai’i Optimum Performance

This is an ongoing, sports-conditioning program, and kids can join anytime.

8. American Renaissance Academy

Spaces are available for Session 1 from June 4 to June 29, and Session 2 from July 2 to July 27.

9. St. Andrew’s Schools

Applications will be taken through June 11 for the Summer School session for ages 4-18, scheduled for June 12 to July 20. Summer Adventure for age 4 to 8th grade is from June 4 to Aug. 10 and will accept students throughout the summer. The International Hospitality Center recently opened two more classes for the Summer English Language Study Programs and will take applications until June 30 for the session scheduled for July 22 to Aug. 18. At the high-school level, World Cultures and Religion class no longer is open, due to high demand.

10. Wesley Children’s Program

Spaces are available for the summer program, May 29 to Aug. 3, for ages 5-12.

11. Sylvan Learning Center Mililani

This is an open-enrollment program and will accept new students throughout summer.

12. Island Pacific Academy

Space is available but limited for the summer program, June 12 to July 20, for grades K-8.

13. La Pietra-Hawai’i School for Girls  

Space is available for the summer session beginning June 11 and ending July 20, for girls grades 5-8. The Forensic Trials class is closed due to popularity.

14. ʻIolani School

Although the deadline has passed, spaces are available but limited for the summer core program, June 11 to July 20. There is a late-application charge of $50 per student. Some classes are open in the Auxiliary Session. Call the school for details.

15. Maryknoll School

The late-application deadline is June 1 for the summer program for grades K-12, scheduled for June 5 to July 13. Apply in person, and pay in cash. Classes that no longer are available due to high demand: High school Geometry, Drivers Education and Algebra II. Lower School ‘Ukulele, Language Camp, Computer Animation, Make an App, and Learn Build and Play. Language Arts for grades 1, 2 and 4.

16. Punahou School

The summer session, June 12 to July 20, has limited space except for kindergarten and first grade, which have closed due to demand. High-school classes also are full. punahou.edu/summer

17. Hoʻāla Keiki Summer School  

Register by June 4 for the summer session, June 4 to July 27.

Register by June 4 for the summer session, scheduled for June 13 to July 3.

19. Hawaiʻi Children’s Discovery Center

The following weeks still are available for kids ages 5-8: “Neverland Adventures” from June 18-22 and “Holiday Scramble” from July 2-6. For ages 8-12, the following are available: “Hawai’i Plants and Gardens” from July 23-27; “Hawai’i Sun and Food Adventure” from July 30-Aug. 3; and “Innovation Station” from Aug. 6-10.

20. Still & Moving Center 

Keiki Dance Yoga Camp for kids ages 6-12 has openings for June 4-8 and July 30-Aug. 3. 

21. Camp Hōkūleʻa  

The camp is accepting applications for Session 1, which runs June 29 to Aug. 3, and Session 2, which runs July 14 to Aug. 3. The overnight, multicultural camp is for children in grades one through six, and kamaʻāina rates are available.
