We’re Marie-Kondo-ing our lives right now, which has been doing wonders for our bedrooms, but has been a real tragedy for our shopping addiction. Enter salvation: The Laylow’s ultra-modern, magically minimal gift shop.
Tucked into a sunny corner of the buzzy, new Kūhiō Avenue hotel, the boutique is curated by the same Oregon-based creative team behind the property’s overall panache. Think Ossipoff meets avocado toast—a hip, mid-century, resort aesthetic that pays homage to tropical yesteryear.
The shop’s stripped-down Scandi vibe and eclectic pops of whimsy lend style cred to sparsity. Dotting its airy, open shelving, we found pieces from some of our favorite local designers: Elegant gold-foil Bradley & Lily cards; Aloha Beach Club button-downs peppered with pint-sized illustrations of Island icons; My Mānoa’s all-natural handmade soaps.
The buyers also stocked up on gems from national and international makers, including gorgeous, earthy jewelry made of sculpted, speckled polymer from Londoner Kate Trouw. Ombre- and marble-print stationery from hard-to-find Danish design house Hay will give your desktop an understated dash of style. Other highlights include Barcelona brand Don Fisher’s charming sea-creature bags, terracotta-hued totes from Guatemala label Palorosa Project, and ceramist Knotworks L.A.’s modern, kitschy-cool takes on tiki mugs, which we’re dying to scoop up. Pro tip: Post-shopping, treat yourself to a mai tai served in one next door at Hideout, The Laylow’s lānai-style bar—the liliko‘i foam version is our fave.
