Sneak Peek: Aloha Beach Club’s Latest Made in Hawai‘i Collection
Perfect for throwback Thursdays.

We love birthdays, and not just because there’s cake (but that's a big part of it). It's also a chance to whip out your crafty decor skills. You get to party with pals. People treat you like a celeb just for getting a year older. Oh, and did we mention there's cake? (And ice cream, too, if you're a baller.)
There may not be desserts at the seasonal mid-October release of the one-year-old Made in Hawai‘i line from one of our favorite local brands, Aloha Beach Club, but trust us—this A/W collection is way sweet. First off, it’s a true local: Hawai‘i boy, owner Kahana Kalama, and team launched this line of Hawai‘i-manufactured pants, jackets and aloha shirts in the fall of last year, a few months after opening the brand’s Kailua Outpost location. You’ll still find a lot of their California-made products—like the Shoots line tees, which are made in L.A., a skip and a jump from the Aloha Beach Club flagship San Diego shop—but an Island-based location called for some special, Island-made products.
Now, at the ripe age of 1, the Made in Hawai‘i line is going strong, with a mature, nostalgic feel and the same tidy, modern cuts. Kalama took inspiration from both the past and the present, a “plantation vacation dichotomy,” as he calls it, which includes aesthetic nods to the Hawaiian style of yore as well as contemporary tastes. A color palette of lovely soft beiges, washed blues and deep navy sets an earthy tone for a lineup of on-point retro patterns: Think old-school hula girls, classic palm silhouettes, woodblock-like pineapples and even a stylized floral number, with tight and tidy blooms reminiscent of plantation-era Japanese tenugui prints. Slim-cut shorts and slightly breezy resort-appropriate trousers pair with the standout shirts and crisp, tailored jackets for a pulled-together version of the quintessential Hawai‘i beach boy. And we're definitely digging the vibe of the sleek, well-crafted blazers and hoodies, and that indigo leaf-print shirt that's cool as a cucumber.
Birthday suits never looked so damn classy.
