You might want to book your dinner reservation before you get to the end of this post, because secret’s out: Taco Tuesday at Scratch is the best deal in town, and the price has already jumped from $24 to $26 in the past month. Dont say I didnt warn you.

In the age of $16 cocktails and entrees upward of $30, its almost impossible to get a high-quality meal with drinks for less than $50 a person. This is especially true at Scratch, where a burger can cost $38.

Thats why we were surprised to hear about its Taco Tuesday deal: three tacos and three adult beverages for $26. Total.

Scratch Taco Tuesday
A 6-ounce beer, a shot of tequila and a cocktail come with each Taco Tuesday special.

When we went, we started with a shot of tequila blanco, followed by a watermelon agua fresca and a 6-ounce pour of Modelo. When our tacos came, we were shocked at the amount of food before us. Not only do you get three different tacos, there’s a hefty side of smoky rice and beans topped with cotija cheese and cilantro, plus pickled veggies and two salsas.

The tacos rotate each week—some past versions have included crispy pork belly with apple slaw and gorgonzola; cola-braised beef short rib, chicken liver mousse and pickled vegetables; and gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp), tomato relish and sherry crema. We had buttermilk-fried oysters, short rib and chicharron (our favorite) that night, and we plan to go again until we’ve tried them all.

Three gourmet tacos and three drinks for less than the cost of one entree. The only downside? No dessert to finish the meal. But Lucys Lab Creamery is right around the corner.

$26, 1170 Auahi St., dinner from 5 to 9 p.m., (808) 589-1669, scratch-hawaii.com
