Slowtide’s Back With a Stunning New Collection of Work-of-Art Towels

You’ve never owned a beach towel quite like these—and they’re going fast.

We all know art doesn’t lie—but, sometimes, we like to lie on it.

At least we do when we’re jonesing for a fierce-as-hell way to sunbathe on the beach. Then, we stretch out on Slowtide towels, the locally based collab-aganza brand that has tapped its network of artists and creators once again for a totally gorgeous 20-piece 2017 collection.

The team has even released a slick lookbook, starring world surfer Sage Erickson and Hawaiian skater Evan Mock. Plus, the brand is branching out from beach-day swag with a new fitness towel perfect for the gym, and a premium jacquard towel, which comes with luxe details that include a leather label and fringed ends.

It’s the designs that really set Slowtide apart though, with hip, eye-catching and unique works of art from envelope-pushing artists featured on each of the quick-drying, cotton-velour-and-terry towels. For the spring lineup, the team tapped the minds of creatives from multiple coasts, starting with Los Angeles graffiti artist Push, whose geometric sketchlike piece reads like a streetwise study in line and shape. Hawai‘i-born photographer, sculptor and painter Mark Oblow’s offering reexamines Hawaiiana with a monochrome, minimalist take on the typical tropical floral print. Brandon Spiegel’s art is an exploration of graphics, form and semiotics, and it shows in his mesmerizing, mazelike design, satisfyingly symmetrical while being dreamily surreal.

Slowtide co-founder Wylie Von Tempsky also got in on the artistic action with some of our favorites from the collection, including a soothing fractured palm-frond pattern in a soft range of greens, and a nomad-inspired, Southwestern piece that takes a cue from the region’s classic rug and blanket art. We can definitely see ourselves making a statement on the beach with the aptly named “Temple,” a mystical, monochrome, reversible (and just way cool) work done in the artistic styling of ancient sacred geometry.

The bad news? They’re getting snapped up fast, even with a collection this big. So hit up the online store or retailers such as Guava Shop and Aloha Beach Club to turn your beach bum day into a gallery exhibition.
