Simple last-minute holiday manicure ideas from One Stop Nail

Snow of Hands

Holiday manicures

On one hand, you've managed to check everything off your holiday to-do list. On the other hand, your nails are in desperate need of a Christmas miracle (hey, the tree wasn't the only thing that needed trimming this season).

Polish up with these fun holiday manicure ideas from One Stop Nail and Beauty Salon. Below, owner Derek Lu offers easy nail art tips using tools you probably already have at home. Fingers crossed.

Prep your nails. Gently push back cuticles. Then, run a file over nail edges and buff the nail itself to create a smooth, even surface. Wipe with 100-percent alcohol to clean and dehydrate the nail. This makes the manicure last longer.

Apply the polish. Apply two coats of color, making sure to paint along the nail edge. Between coats, dry completely and, for best results, clean surface with more with alcohol.

Get creative. Choose your nail art and colors (note: you can use either acrylic paint or polish, which requires longer drying time). Use thin brushes, dotting tools, chopsticks, toothpicks, or even pins to draw designs on the nail – whatever you have on hand. Handle them lightly to prevent damaging the base manicure.

Snowflakes – Draw four crossed lines to make a star. Create snowflake detail by either drawing small V's along each line or dotting the ends. Add additional dots between the flakes to create more "snow."
Candy Cane – Draw white lines diagonally across the nail, alternating between thick and thin lines for a holiday feel.
Ornaments – Paint various circles for the base of the ornaments, then choose different colors to add the handles. Apply smaller colored dots between the ornaments.

Final touches. Dry completely and, for even more frosty sparkle, apply a clear, glitter polish on top. Finish with a top coat to seal everything in and rub cuticles with oil to keep them moisturized and healthy.

Manicures start at $15 for polish, $25 for gel, nail art starts at $5 for two nails. One Stop Nail and Beauty Salon is located at 1132 S. King St., free parking in back. For more information, call 808-728-8272 or visit One Stop Nail on Facebook.
