Shear Madness: Clothes and Accessories That Do More With Less
Any way you slice it, cutouts are having a moment, with both local artists and designers opting for pared-down plays on positive and negative space.

The Artwork
Three-hundred pieces of precisely sliced paper flowers, vines and leaves cascade down to form Green Piece, veteran printmaker Allyn Bromley’s beautiful, 3-D nod to nature, currently on display as part of the Honolulu Museum of Art’s Natural Unnatural Supernatural contemporary art installation. To create the stunning assemblage, Bromley took an X-acto knife to screenprinted recycled paper and painstakingly removed the white space, leaving behind the prints.
Exhibit runs through November, 900 S. Beretania St., 532-8700.
The Dress
Cut a trim figure in Tiare Hawaii’s cage-back Echo Beach dress. A snippet from North Shore designer Jane Hoskin’s new Dream Catchers collection, the airy, rayon voile frock flashes just enough skin for a look that’s equal parts sexy and sweet.
