Is there anything creepier than a life-size Tim Curry?

War of the Worlds: The 1938 Radio Script

When listeners tuned in to the live broadcast of Orson Welles’ Halloween episode of The Mercury Theatre on the Air, an adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds, some allegedly thought Earth really was being invaded by aliens. Eighty years later—especially with this year’s false missile alert—society is just as freaked out when trusted forms of communication swear impending doom. Listen to a staged reading of Welles’ radio broadcast, presented by UH Mānoa’s Theatre and Dance Association, to celebrate its anniversary.
$5, Kennedy Theatre, 1770 East-West Road, Oct. 26, 27 and 30, 7:30 to 9 p.m., manoa.hawaii.edu
